Meet Maui Artist Jonathan Seiwell
Over a decade ago I started developing a technique of encasing crystals inside glass pendants because I wanted to create glass art that had both originality and meaning. Since then, I’ve expanded by using materials such as sea glass, sand and even memorial ashes within glass, with each piece being one-of-a-kind and carrying a vibrant energy and intention.
Born and raised in Pennsylvania, I moved to California in my early twenties with the hope that my crystal-infused pendants would capture the interest from the holistic and art-loving community of the West Coast. I eventually moved into “The Convent,” an old nunnery-turned-artist collective in San Francisco, which brought me many wonderful opportunities to share my work at crystal fairs and music festivals in the Bay area. However, it wasn’t until 2012 after traveling to the breathtaking islands of Hawaii that my artistic vision really began to blossom. After living so closely with nature in such a sacred environment, I suddenly found myself looking tothe ‘Aina for my process and inspiration. I began layering natural found items such as seashells, fossils, and plants upon my glasswork and then copper-plating them, turning my pieces into intricate works of art.
Since firmly planting roots on the breathtaking island of Maui, I’ve continued to share my work—which now encompasses jewelry, marbles, and collector’s items—with the many beautiful people who venture here and locals of the island. I am constantly looking to expand my presence and vision as an artist… And while most of my art is born from personal inspiration, I am always deeply grateful for the opportunity to create custom pieces for those with something specific in mind.
With much love and many mahalos,
Jonathan Seiwell
